Purpose Driven Education Project
This project covered 373 students (213 from Santander and 160 from Guajira) who received educational assistance (uniform, shoes, and school kits).
-
Academic performance was monitored throughout the year.
-
They participated in a cycle of training in study techniques. In Santander, 52 workshops were given to 13 communities. In La Guajira, they participated in a cycle of training of life projects, and 27 workshops in 7 communities.
-
2 trainings were carried out for primary school teachers who are the basis of education in La Guajira where a large percentage of their students are primary school students.
-
35 tutoring sessions were carried out by students of the older grades, once a week in a community of La Guajira.
-
A total of 51 students graduated (Santander 41 and Guajira 10).
-
After all the challenges brought by the pandemic, the program hopes to motivate students and provide them with tools to successfully complete their studies
Historically, in La Guajira, it was unlikely that a student from the indigenous community would complete high school. However, our program is transforming this trend. Gradually, the community is becoming aware of the importance of education. In fact, of the 10 graduating students, 9 belong to the indigenous population.
In Santander, more and more rural communities are joining the initiative to continue their studies after finishing high school, thus helping to expand the list of students who can continue their university studies.
